The Secret to Tasty Boxed Brownies 

If it's of good quality, like the butter that our Test Kitchen loves, it'll get bonus points. 

Canola or vegetable oil is the go-to for most packaged brownies.  

In some of the combinations we've seen, water is the sole liquid ingredient. 

Swap it out for milk, buttermilk, or coconut milk—liquids that are richer and more flavorful.

Just adding a little extra milk fat to a regular box of brownies can make them extra luscious and delicious. 

Adding a pinch of salt to the mixture before baking will help balance 

out the sweetness of boxed brownies if you've ever had that problem.
